A MatchingDonors.com volunteer is someone who will be able to help a patient run their MatchingDonors.com website. This can be done with the patient, until the point where the patient - or their family- can productively run the MatchingDonors.com website themselves. Hopefully within three weeks of working with the volunteer the patient will no longer need the help of the volunteer and the patient will be able to use the MatchingDonors.com website themselves. Almost all of our volunteers were either patients or donors that took part in a transplant on MatchingDonors.com. The volunteer can be located anywhere in the country. The volunteer will call the patient- and or patient's family- three times a week- usually in the evening to help the patient update their profile, search donors and contact donors that you feel may be compatible to you to see if they are willing to be tested for you. The volunteer will always be following the steps of the instructions on the patient's MatchingDonors.com desktop: These steps are explained in depth on the patient's desktop. Before you use MatchingDonors.com please read and follow these instructions. In order to be successful with your MatchingDonors.com account you must be proactive. To get the best response from your MatchingDonors.com account you must do the following: Send your profile out to every donor in our database every day. Contact donors through your search agent at least once a day. Also, contact all donors that you can by telephone, if they don't show a telephone number then send them a private message through MatchingDonors.com, asking them to contact you, and asking them if you can have their telephone number. Whenever you send a message your profile automatically goes along with it. Contact MatchingDonors.com within three days of finding a donor that has had a blood test and matched to you to start the process of us trying to help you and your donor with travel arrangements. The patient must be available for the volunteer on a regular schedule, the session should take less than 30 minutes each time and the goal is to get the patient proficient in using the MatchingDonors.com website without the volunteer; ultimately getting the patient the transplant.
